The fifth-generation Oura Ring keeps the same discreet titanium band that made the smart ring category popular in the first place, but the story this time is restraint. Rather than piling on new sensors, Oura focused on battery life and accuracy tweaks, and the result is a ring that fades into the background more than any wearable at this price point.
Sleep tracking remains the highlight. The ring’s temperature sensing and heart rate variability readings feed into a nightly readiness score that’s genuinely useful for deciding whether to push hard at the gym or take a rest day. New for this generation is a slightly more accurate step count and a redesigned charging case that tops up the ring faster between wears.
Where the Oura Ring 5 stumbles a little is value for existing owners. If you already have a Ring 4, the improvements here are incremental rather than transformative, and the subscription fee required to unlock full insights still feels steep for what amounts to a glorified sleep tracker for some users. New users, however, get a genuinely polished experience out of the box, with none of the bulk of a smartwatch and far better battery life, often stretching four to five days per charge.
Who should buy it: People trying a smart ring for the first time, especially anyone who prioritizes sleep and recovery tracking over workout metrics. Current Oura Ring 4 owners can comfortably wait for the next real leap.
Where to buy: Check current pricing on Oura’s official site or through major electronics retailers.
